Valentina

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

I found the work of Guido Crepax many years ago and he is unquestionably one of my greatest heroes in the art world. He has been the main influence on my aesthetic sense. My love for the dark-haired Valentina is evident in my own scribblings, I guess. She is gorgeous. Especially when she is naked. Which is frequently.

Look at her. Perfection.

Amanda Lepore

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

I think she counts as artwork. I mean she has sculpted herself to look like someone’s acid trip. She does not look natural, but so what? She’s fierce.

Fashion

Sunday, August 16th, 2009

I don’t know fashion. I honestly don’t. I have never thought about what label Paris Hilton is wearing because I am sure whatever it is, she still looks like a whore.

HOWEVER. A friend of mine started working in an Emporio Armani boutique that has been chosen among the 3 most beautiful Armani shops in the world. I had never even dared step into an Armani boutique before. What if I broke something?

Well, now I went in while my friend was there and boy do I get why it’s so sought after. I mean the cuts are to die for! Holy Jebus! It’s all so fucking gorgeous. It’s art! If only I could sew so well as to make these clothes myself. There is no justice in the world.

Countdown

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

This video was submitted to the NFB (National Film Board of Canada) competition. It did not win. It should have.

It’s about a pianist whose fingers become immobile one after the other, counting down to the moment when there’s nothing left to count down to.

Richard Notkin

Sunday, July 5th, 2009

OK, so I looked around for some of his other stuff and YAY I found that he is not a one-hit-wonder for me. I actually like his other work as well. I will look into this matter more thoroughly some other day as I am really tired (just got back from Estonian Song and Dance Festival that had lots of wind and rain and drunk people singing songs about beer). But here’s a couple of pictures of Richard Notkin’s work (that consists mostly of teapots):

You can read more about him here, for example.

Cool Teapot

Sunday, July 5th, 2009

I love it. I want it.

It’s Heart Teapot: Hostage Metamorphosis II by Richard Notkin.

Found it here.

I really love ceramics and I am constantly looking for interesting artists who make cool ceramic stuff. But due to my poor searching skills and my nonexistent education in the art of messing around with clay I seldom find anyone I actually like. It’s always brown bowls and the same fucking vases painted with oh-so-artsy-fartsy colors that I see on the internet. I won’t give up, though. I know there are plenty of cool artists out there who make wonders happen with their hands, I just haven’t found my way to them. Yet.

Jewelry

Sunday, June 21st, 2009

I have done a little bit of beading myself, but only a little. I made earrings, necklaces and bracelets from beads and silver wire, but only a few came out the way I wanted.  I found a beading artist who makes really beautiful things: Emily Gray. Her homepage is here. Here’s a few examples of her work:

I also found a really beautiful necklace by Jennifer Smith-Righter, an artist specializing in silver jewelry. Found it here. The rest of her work is not really to my taste, but this necklace is cool, don’t you think?

Stina Persson

Saturday, June 20th, 2009

Stina Persson is an illustrator living in Stockholm, Sweden. Although I don’t think too much of her acrylic/ink pieces and there is something about her subject matter (beautiful girls just… being beautiful girls, I guess) that is holding me back from loving her work, I love what she does with watercolors. I mean, look at these:

How could you not like these? Got them from Stina Persson’s homepage.
