Fringe

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011

When Fringe started, I was psyched. I thought it was kind of like x-files, only more scientific – an epic win combo! And the first season was great, it totally delivered! I was pleased, Al was pleased, and we were both looking forward to season 2.

For a while, season 2 also delivered, but then confusion kicked in. The scientific side was starting to slip, and we entered Twilight Zone with hints of budding romance in the air. But with the positive feelings we had for the first season, we made it through the second and hoped the Awesome would return in season 3.

And then came season three. And it was, at first, still pretty confusing and we didn’t quite know what this show was about anymore. But now the season is half-way through and a few episodes ago…

“Oh, it’s a love story,” she said in a whisper of a cry.

A romance is also, in itself, quite OK. But when you think back on the promising season 1, you cannot help but feel like the show has curled up under a tree trunk and died a smelly death.

To illustrate this mess, here’s a typical scene from season 1:

And here’s a typical scene from season 3:

Can you hear it? Can you hear the bar being buried?

PS I cannot get over the fact that at first Walter said there were supposedly an infinite number of universes, but now, for some unexplained reason, there are only two. What happened to the rest?

Where did they go?!?

Nintendo Wii

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011

We got it for last christmas. I love it.

For a while I was quite pleased with the option to exercise, but my willpower is quick with the vanishing act so no more shadow boxing for a while. Fortunately not all the games make full use of Wii’s movement recognition thingamabob or whatever, so you can laze on the couch and play Super Mario just as happily.

My favorite game thus far is Sengoku Basara 3. Since I’m essentially a girly girl, I hadn’t played that kind of games before. You know, the ones where you have to kick and kill and wreak havoc etc. So when Al forced me to play Basara for the first time I just pouted and pushed random buttons. But then after a while the pout disappeared and I started making sense of the game. And then I loved it.

My favorite character is Yukimura. He is awesome.

I heard they made Basara into an anime. huh.
