Engrish poetry

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

I am always amused by engrish. It’s like language without rules.

Think of the possibilities!

Today in psychology class a girl sat near me wearing a yellowish hoodie with skulls, angels and asparagus (?) on it. And on her right sleeve, just big enough for me to read it three people away, was the text:

the fashion best
moor tip top happy
to you there whe
wear sport on shool
love you girl

Ahem.

I got flashbacks of all the clothes I have seen that have major WTF writings on them. I know I myself have had tees with what looks like a poem on them, but is actually the result of some Chinese kid’s play of lets-flip-the-dictionary-and-pick-random-words.

I wish I would still have the shirt I had when I was 10 that had some good 20 long lines on it. I remember I tried to read it and afterwards felt like I was the stupidest person alive because I could not understand anything. I dreamt of the day I would be able to decipher that wretched code, get to the bottom of that – no doubt – meaningful and deep message, and get on with my life. That day never came, of course.

And just to continue on the subject of randomness, here’s a picture of a chair I like:

17 Again

Sunday, September 13th, 2009

You can sum this up with one sentence: “Zac Efron is fighting to get out of High School Musical.”

It kind of works, because here we see him lusting over an older woman and his words are those of a 40-year-old. So he is not entirely a teen girl’s heartthrob, but a bit like a man.

But it kind of doesn’t work, because he is the hot guy in high school who plays basketball. So he’s still a bit of a teen girl’s heartthrob.

It’s like a moving-on movie. He could not totally break out of his role as what’s-his-face HSM character, so he had to give the viewers what they wanted. But he also let them know that he wants to do something else. So the next time you go into a theatre to see his movie, you might not get the usual teencandy. But who knows. Maybe you will.

I know that I got his message and I say go for it, but I don’t know how everyone else feels about his plans. Looking at the picture below I would not bet on their wholehearted support.

Superbad

Sunday, September 13th, 2009

I have never seen a more realistic scene with drunk teenagers getting ready to have sex for the first time. Honestly. The slurring, the drunken confidence, the clumsiness… Jebus, it’s dead on.

I have not made up my mind about Seth Rogen, though. He’s kind of funny and cuddly, but there’s something about him that makes me think he sucks. A bit. I don’t know.

I think I’m overthinking it. It was a totally fine movie. I laughed. And that was the point, wasn’t it? One thing was weird though. Is it really THAT hard for teenagers to get alcohol in America? Jees…
