No, NOT the movie. That movie was just… wrong. I’m talking about the real thing. Peter Chung’s Aeon Flux that was on MTV.

The first time I saw Aeon Flux was when I had nothing to do and was raping the remote control of our TV some years back. When I hit MTV I saw it.  It was weird.

I thought that if I’d watch it a few more minutes I would understand it and then I could continue with my date with the remote control. So the minutes passed and I had no idea whatsoever what was going on in that weird show with characters that looked like Egon Schiele himself had made them. The episode ended and I thought:

“What the hell did I just watch?”

And it was settled. I was a fan. I like things that I don’t understand right away. I like the process of getting from “WTF??” to “OK, maybe it’s …” to “Oh, I see. Yeah. Right on.” And with Aeon I am still, after all these years, on the brink of understanding  something. And that is just… fantastic.

Some time ago I googled for pretty pictures and found one that was totally gorgeous. And then I forgot I had found it. So I came across that picture just now and googled for the author. It’s Arthur Rackham (1867-1939). He has illustrated many books and has influenced a lot of people. I especially like his fairies. Here’s a few examples of his work:

I LOVE TRUE BLOOD.

I just had to get it out of my system. I remember seeing the first episode once but since it did not impress my boyfriend, we did not bother seeing the rest. But it kind of stayed in the back of my head for a couple of months until at one point I demanded that it was my right as a TV lover to see rest of the series. I have a thing for Texan accent (a kinky thing) and that combined with something as awesome as vampires is a winner in my book. And it’s not even just that. It has a good sense of humor, the actors are simply perfect for these roles and the way the show deals with issues such as racism and intolerance for anything different… it’s awesome.

I find myself thinking of Sookie Stackhouse’s look when shopping for clothes. Is that too much? Am I losing it? Come on, she’s so hot! And really cute. Vampire bait.

I actually discovered that I own something similar to the floral print dress Sookie wore on her date with Sam. I love that dress!

Went to see the movie. Surprise: I liked it. I was afraid that it was going to be one of those happy-go-lucky animations you almost enjoy watching but not really, and that the horror side of it would be lame at best, BUT I sincerely loved it. And the 3D really made it pop.

The movie is about Coraline, a bored girl with no friends and nothing to do in the family’s new home. She finds a secret door in the new apartment. The world behind the door is a much better version of the boring and drab real world. Her parents, workaholics who don’t pay attention to their child, are fun and attentive in that other world. It’s such a nice place that Coraline is considering staying there forever. But soon she learns that it might not be the best of ideas.

Won’t say anything else. Watch it and love it yourself.

I had this idea of educating myself about the many wonderful things there is to be found in the vastness of the Internet and posting stuff here along the way, but I would not count on it. I have severe problems with following through, but we’ll see. I hope I can at least post some pictures once in a while even if I lack the willpower to write.
